A Day In The Life Of A Stor-Age Manager - Rodhan Govender

Not too long ago we did a short series on our store managers and what their typical day entailed. It turns out these were well received and many enjoyed reading what a Stor-Age manager does on a day to day basis. Due to the success of these individuals stories we made a call to the rest of our managers to see if they would be interested in telling their story... they were. The first Operations Manager to reply was Rodhan Govender who runs Stor-Age Boksburg and who was cheeky enough to have small jab at other staff due to his short commute, "My day basically starts of by coming through to the Boksburg Store which is a cool 15 minutes’ drive from Home. Oh yes I am one of the lucky ones as there is no such thing as traffic! Each morning a take a drive through the facility to see if my building is still intact and then get to the office and settle in for the big day ahead."

Rodhan tries to make each day count, "I like to treat each day as a brand new adventure and be as productive, if not more productive than the previous day. I have a saying that I abide by which was told to me by my previous employer which is, “Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life.”" And you can see in the stores performance that Rodhan know what he is doing, the store is well kept, clean and maintenance is carried out swiftly, something his tenants appreciate.

Soon after the morning drive through the facility Rodhan meets with his Facility Assistants (FA) to ensure the store is looking sharp. "I then get to my FA’s and get them to take a brief walk through the facility and list down some important tasks to be completed for the day/week. After this I get back to the office and go through my monthly planner and see who needs which reports and start generating them. By this time my office is cleaned and smelling fresh and I am ready to get my day into full swing." Full swing for Rodhan is getting some admin under the belt including calls to prospective tenants and his debtors, "I then go through my follow-ups for the day and start calling my potential clients in order to secure some brand new customers to the Stor-Age family. I then tackle my Debtors and get those payments in and once am done, it is that time of the day to go through the facility to see the progress with my FA’s and during this time I have a quick chat with the Tenants who I see."

It is clear that keeping tabs on how tenants feel is of utmost importance to Rodhan, "Getting to know my tenants on a personal level allows me to pick up on any issues that they might have experienced as customer satisfaction is of very great importance to me and I take pride in being able to provide the best experience for all my tenants be it new or old tenants." This care for customers comes through in Rodhan's achievements of driving the stores occupancy levels and moving new tenants into storage, often the difference between his store and a competitor.

"Towards the end of the day I take the time to go through what was done and what still needs to be followed-up with and go home with the expectation of a great tomorrow knowing that I am part of a company who continues to find new ways to up the level of service offered and who take great care of every employee as we are the people who will determine the success of the brand." Rodhan's passion for excellence is clear and his last words tell us he is serious about 'owning' his store, "And that is my typical day at the office. Oh and not forgetting the odd call at 02:00am from our security company regarding the triggering of the alarm (and I will be there in 15 minutes – No problem at all).
