Tips to declutter your home office

If you are working from home, you will soon have realised that it can be a big adjustment with distractions aplenty. Sometimes these distractions are not in our control, which is okay as almost all of us are in the same boat when it comes to working from home at the moment.

One distraction that you do have in your control though is the stuff around you. Working in a cluttered environment is no good for productivity (there are plenty of reports which confirm this).

So, in today’s blog post we are offering a few tips on how to declutter your home office and be productive.

Tips to declutter your home office

  • Keep your desk clear

Having a clear desk helps you to focus more on the work at hand and less on clutter. Avoid having too many items on your desk. This includes files, pictures and dishes (yes, we know you do). Have a good filing and organisational system to save time finding things you may need.

  • Go wireless!

Keep your desk as neat as possible by going wireless. Go for a wireless mouse and keyboard (if you have these) and if not use tape to secure and neaten up the cable around your work station. Once lockdown is over, go grab those wireless items.

  • Go green

This one is a decluttering of the body. Having plants in your home work space has many benefits. Plants clear the air from toxins as well as having a calming effect, especially when you are on an intense Zoom or Skype calls.

  • Keep it off the floor

It is bound to happen. As you get settled into your new home office you’ll slowly find yourself placing items under your desk or alongside your work station. Don’t! Point 1 refers to the space around you as well.

  • Seating

This one’s about productivity and looking after your back. While your comfortable lounge chair may seem like a good idea, opting for a chair that helps you to sit up right will be a better fit. Having a proper chair will help you to keep your posture correct and eliminate back pain. Sitting up right helps to open your chest so that you breathe correctly which in turn will make you more alert and feel less fatigued, keeping you focused throughout the day.
