National Business Awards 2018 finalist in 2 categories

We are excited to announce that we have been selected as a finalist for the 16th annual National Business Awards in two categories - the Innovation Through Technology Award category as well as the overall prestigious title of National Business of the Year Award.

Introduced in 2002, the National Business Awards recognise the success, innovation and ethics of South African companies and organisations across all industry sectors. The Awards also recognise the important social and environmental contributions made by organisations through the excellence of service, commitment to their customers, ethical behaviour and environmental sustainability. With its rigorous research process and criteria, the accolade is recognised as a benchmark for business excellence.

Stor-Age company spokesperson Chris Oosthuizen said: “We are extremely honoured to be recognised as a finalist for both awards. It is a great testament to how we as a company constantly strive to maintain our core values of Excellence, Sustainability, Relevance and Integrity. We are constantly looking at ways in which to improve our business, to incorporate more technology, to be more efficient and to upskill our team.’’

National Business of the Year Award Finalist

The National Business of the Year Award is one of the most sought-after award categories each year. The award goes to the company who best demonstrates excellence in all spheres of the general criteria (people, planet, profit) and the management thereof. An important factor of this award is also growth. Over the past year we not only purchased one of the UK’s leading self storage companies, but we also opened our 50th store in South Africa.

The Innovation Through Technology Award goes to the company whose technology-based innovation demonstrates improved productivity, price, quality, effectiveness and efficiencies which enhances the competitiveness of the South African economy.

Innovation Through Technology Award

We believe that technology is a key driver of the growth of the self storage industry – both in South Africa and abroad. We constantly assess new and innovative ways to better integrate technology into our business, with a core focus on improving our customer experience and becoming more efficient as a business

One example of how we have incorporated technology into the basics of our business operations is the implementation of the Stor-Age Intranet which allows for a centralised communication platform for staff across all our stores.

In addition, we make a conscientious effort to invest in staff education as we believe that upskilling our employees is an integral part of our business. As a result, we have developed and launched a unique online learning platform called ‘Edu-Space’ where our staff can not only learn and grow in the self storage industry, but in other professional development areas as well.

It’s not only about offering the best customer service and having the best internal systems in place. Energy efficiency, renewable energy, storm water management and conservation is paramount to each and every one of our developments and in the way in which we manage our properties. We are continually looking at ways in which technology can assist us in improving in all these areas.

Adds Chris, ‘’We have a clear vision and well-articulated strategy that aims to deliver attractive and sustainable investment returns, increase the scale of the business and ensure that the company remains the self storage market leader. Everything we do is strategic and everything we do is with passion."

The winner of both categories will be announced on 15 November at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.
