The best way to spend a day out in Bellville

Nestled in the heart of the northern suburbs, Bellville brims with unsuspecting adventure. With views of the Cape Winelands and Stellenbosch’s majestic mountains, the town has evolved from a sleepy suburban neighbourhood to a holidaymaker's haven. Whether whizzing down the first downhill tobogganing track in Africa or embarking on a pony adventure, there are plenty of action-packed activities in and around Bellville the whole family can enjoy. Here are a few of our favourites!

1. Speed down Africa’s first toboggan track

Situated a stone’s throw away from the Tyger Valley shopping centre, Cool Runnings is the perfect activity for a fun-filled day out. The course was Africa’s first downhill tobogganing track and is a top spot for adrenaline junkies and families alike. While fast, the secure bobsleds are spacious and safe, allowing kids as young as three to hurtle down the 1.25-kilometre track with their parents.

2. Tee off at the Bellville Golf Club

After an adrenaline-pumping morning on the track, slow things down at the Bellville Golf Club. Set on Bellville’s lush, undulating hills, the 18-hole course is filled with challenging fairways as well as well-kept practice grounds for first-timers. The club also features a restaurant and bar to grab a bite to eat or to quench your thirst after a good game.

3. Buckle up for a pony adventure

The Fat Pony Riding Centre at Joostenberg Vlakte is home to breathtaking views and a host of friendly four-legged creatures. Here, visitors can saddle up and explore the rustic family homestead on a scenic 60-minute pony ride. Whether you’re an avid horse rider or a complete novice, the calm and tame ponies make the best riding companions.

4. Tuck into lunch at the Happy Gardener Play Park

Buzzing with bunnies, muddy piglets and bouncy trampolines, the Happy Gardener Play Park is a little piece of paradise for the kids! Located in the Stodels garden centre, families can dig into a delicious meal while keeping an eye on the kids in the entertainment area. Visitors can also hand feed the animals, giving kids a taste of farm life!

5. Shop till you drop at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre

Situated just off the N1, the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre is a favourite for shopaholics in need of some retail therapy. With 257 shops, a multi-level food court and a movie theatre with 10 cinemas, there is plenty to see, do and buy here. The stylish mall is also open until 7 pm, making it an excellent spot to grab dinner or get some last-minute supplies.
