40th Stor-Age Pirates 10K a Huge Success

This past Sunday, 05 August, the Stor-Age Pirates 10K running event was held at Pirates Club in Greenside, Johannesburg. This year the event celebrated its 40th anniversary with over 2,000 finishers.

Pirates Club was a hive of activity as both experienced and novice runners gathered for the race. As a popular race on the running calendar that takes runners through the leafy suburbs of Greenside and Parkview, the festive atmosphere was heightened with great weather at the start of the race.

The event was an incredible success and we are proud to have been involved as title sponsor of such a highly regarded race in the Johannesburg running community. We also thoroughly enjoyed being in the midst of the competitive spirit by managing the water points on the route.

The Stor-Age Pirates 10K running event consisted of a 10km run and a 10km walk, the latter of which constituted as an official CGA walking league race.

Bradley Nelson, Race Director for Stor-Age Pirates 10K, “What makes this event special is that it not only attracts some of our fastest runners and walkers, but also a number of 10km ‘first-timers’, dog walkers and pram pushers. We are proud that the Stor-Age Pirates 10K can be considered not only ‘Joburg’s warmest winter 10K’, but also a race that is fun for both competitive runners, and social runners.”

David Manja was the overall winner of the 10km run, completing the race in a time of 30:04. Gené Coetzee, only 15 years of age, was the ladies winner with a time of 40:26. Mshimbi Tebatso won the men’s 10 km walk in a time of 48:15 and Nthatisi Mokhele won the ladies 10km walk in a time of 55:54.

Being involved in local sporting events is just one of the ways that we strive to highlight our belief in promoting healthy lifestyle choices and encourage people to be active.

We are passionate about the communities in which we operate, and we look forward to working with Pirates Club next year to create an even bigger and better racing event!
