Seven simple tricks to declutter and organise your bathroom

The bathroom is more than likely the smallest room in any home, but it can easily be the messiest. Seldom does one’s bathroom look as glamorous as they do in pictures found in glossy magazines but if you follow these guidelines you can get fairly close!

  1. Empty your cupboards

Bathroom cupboards usually contain expired medical products, semi-squeezed toothpaste tubes, old toothbrushes or stretched out hair bands. Take the time to look through all the items you are storing in your bathroom cupboard and get rid of the ones you no longer need.

  1. Only keep daily essentials in your bathroom

Avoid overloading your bathroom with unnecessary clutter or items that don’t belong there. Turn your bathroom into a minimalist haven that Marie Kondo would be proud of.

  1. Be clever with shelving

Using a simple spice rack or a shelf is a great way to optimise space in the bathroom by neatly providing a home for a variety of items (make sure you only store what you really need though – go back to point 1!). Attach a spice rack next to your mirror to hold your hair products, deodorants and other beauty items. Make use of corner shelving or install a shelf above your bathroom door to store items which are not frequently used.

  1. Tray organiser

Your bathroom drawers are often in complete disarray. Think about how much time you’ve spent searching through your drawers to eventually find what you’re looking for. Fix this by making use of trays and dividers.

  1. Mason jars

Consider buying a few clear matching mason jars to store miscellaneous items such as pins or cotton wool. Neatly position them on your shelf and label them.

  1. Woven baskets

Woven baskets are handy for bathroom storage and are ideal solution for holding items such as towels and toilet rolls. Place these baskets next to the toilet or hang them on the wall.

  1. Self storage

If there are items that are cluttering up your bathroom but you simply can’t get rid of, use self storage. With 50 stores across South Africa, there is a good chance that you’ll find a Stor-Age within five minutes of your door.
