Reflecting on industries affected by lockdown and our Local Business Spotlight
The pandemic has affected various industries in so many different ways. While some have been able to adapt to an online world, others have struggled to keep their doors open. These are just a few of the industries greatly impacted, and a look into how they are adapting.
-
Retail - in-store shopping has decreased. Many businesses have downsized floor space and increased their online offerings. This is going to be an interesting space to watch over the coming year and the ‘new retail’ settles in
-
Hospitality - one of the worst affected sectors was tourism, an industry which has been shaken to its core as a result of travel restrictions. While some have sadly closed their doors, many are offering decreased rates to occupy rooms. What was historically out of reach for South Africans in terms of affordability, is now within budget which is great news for us locals
-
Restaurants - another industry which has been severely negatively impacted. Dining venues have taken advantage of home deliveries and even created special hampers. There has be so much reinvention in this space, from mocktail pairings with fine dining to a whole new outdoor eating experience
-
Digital marketing - many businesses in this space have flourished as an increasing number of companies look to go online and improve their digital presence. Many digital marketers have become busier because of increased demand.
How has your industry been affected by the pandemic and how have you adapted?
In an effort to give our customers some online exposure, this week we featured three local businesses, and a charity, that are continuing to operate to the best of their ability, despite challenges.
