Public pledging official opens for the Santa Shoebox Project

The Santa Shoebox Project, of which Stor-Age is a main sponsor, has officially opened public pledging for 2019.

The project, now in its 14th year, collects and distributes gifts for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. In 13 years, they have reached more than 850 000 children and this year they hope to add 100 000 to that number.

The public can now start pledging their Santa Shoeboxes and help make a difference to the lives of children throughout South Africa who may not be receiving a gift this festive season, and the project has made it incredibly easy to do so.

Simply visit www.santashoebox.org.za, pledge your shoebox and then collect a free empty shoebox from any Stor-Age store nationwide. Donors then fill the shoeboxes with eight items as listed on the website, decorate the box and then drop it off at Stor-Age again. The Santa Shoeboxes will then be delivered to underprivileged children across the country in time for the festive season.

Comments Debbie Zelezniak, CEO of the Santa Shoebox Project, “We are incredibly excited to open pledging for 2019. This is a personal engagement for donors as each name belongs to an underprivileged child in their community for whom they prepare a meaningful gift. Donors choose their beneficiary child in the knowledge that the Shoebox they lovingly fill with treats and essential items will be handed directly to that very child. We encourage donors to include a note to the child - often the most valued part of the Shoebox.”

Stor-Age, now partnered with the Santa Shoebox for the eighth consecutive year, will provide up to four free shoeboxes per donor, after which the boxes are sold at R5 a box. Donors can find their closest Stor-Age store by visiting www.stor-age.co.za (there are over 50 in South Africa).

The items that are to be included in each shoebox include: a toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, soap, toy, outfit of clothing, school supplies and sweets.

Adds Zelezniak, “We invite all supporters to connect with, uplift and inspire 100 000 children this year, who, upon receiving their very own Santa Shoebox, will share in the joy of giving. We look forward to welcoming you to our drop offs this year.”
