Why Are There 1 000 Packs Of Sanitary Pads at Stor-Age Claremont?
Stor-Age received an unusual request, “At the moment we need storage for about 1 000 packs of pads and underwear.” Sanitary pads and underwear in storage? The request is from The Businesswomen's Association in Cape Town. Robin Hey, Chairperson for The Businesswomen's Association noted, “…research has shown that there are about 9 million school-going girls of ages of 10 to 18 in LSM groups 1 to 4 in South Africa. Approximately 25% of these girls do not go to school for one week per month, while they are menstruating. The reason for this is purely financial in that any available money is used firstly on food. What is more shocking is that many of these girls are not able to wear underwear on a regular basis. The Sani Sistas Project facilitates the acquisition and distribution of reusable, washable sanitary towels and girls’ underwear and by so doing restores dignity to school girls and provide them with advice for living a healthy life. This programme has been endorsed by the Western Cape Department of Education.” Stor-Age was only too happy to be involved by proving some self storage space at the newly opened Stor-Age Claremont branch.
The CSI initiative has already provided sanitary pads and underwear to Zimisa Primary School in Langa, Beacon Hill School in Mitchells Plain, Koeberg Primary and St George’s Home for Girls. This type of initiative was something that Stor-Age could not pass on and we are delighted to be a small part of helping so many school girls around South Africa. The packs that are handed out contain 12 pairs of pads and underwear and costs about R300. You can show your support by making a donation and spreading the word. You can follow The Businesswomen's Association of South Africa on Facebook or Twitter.
This is not the first time this year that Stor-Age has been involved with charity events. There have also been sponsors for Mdzananda Animal Clinic, These Shoes Are Made For Working and Help2read. If you know of a worthy cause that is looking for some extra storage space please let us know by emailing headoffice@stor-age.co.za.
