Construction Update - Stor-Age Expands
The first month of 2016 is finished already and our construction teams have been hard at work to ensure the next generation of self storage facilities as well as upgrades to our existing stores are on track for completion. GM Construction David Matheson gave us a quick run down of a few of our current projects.
Midrand
New smaller units are being built on site to improve the unit mix. Shadeport parking bays are also being installed. Project should be completed by the end of March.
Zwartkop
Two new blocks containing smaller units are being constructed to improve the unit mix. Construction is progressing well with completion expected at the end of May.
Sunninghill
Our tallest Gauteng store at seven storeys. Concrete works will be complete in two weeks and the steel self storage system installation has already started. Store is programmed to open early August.
Essexwold
Our deepest Gauteng store with two floors below ground. Bulk excavations have been extremely challenging with granite encountered on site requiring blasting to remove. The water table is also very high with there being a river adjacent to the site and the excavation is continually filled with ground water. Site is extremely visible being located adjacent to the N3 highway. Completion scheduled by year end.
Berea
Our second big-box store in Durban started early in January. The existing Da Vinci Building, located adjacent to the N3 highway, is being converted into self storage. Internal demolitions are progressing well with the store programmed to open during November.
Randburg
Demolition of the existing buildings located on this prime site on Bram Fisher Drive will start in February. This new big-box store will be completed early in 2017.
