A camper’s guide to the festival season

Spring has sprung, and with it, the start of the overnight festival season. If you love music, and you love camping, these music festivals are an ideal way to chill out in nature while soaking up some beats. A few popular festivals coming up include Rocking the Daisies, which happens this weekend, followed by Up the Creek and the Wolfie Familie Festival in early 2019.

To make sure a good time is had by all, you need to be properly prepped to tackle the great outdoors. Gear like a proper sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, camping lantern, pop-up canopy tent, portable table, folding camping chairs and a large cooler bag are essential if you want to be part of the “festival pros” gang and not look like a camping rookie.

Camping can be fun, but it can also be unenjoyable if you come unprepared. A four-man tent is advisable for a music festival as it is large enough to stash your air mattress and bags, and won’t be too crowded. Make sure your sleeping bag fits the weather conditions – you don’t want to find yourself shivering under a lightweight summer sleeping bag when the mercury drops.

Camping chairs are also an essential, otherwise you’ll find yourself sitting on the ground all day when you’re back at the campsite. Board games are a great way to get to know your neighbours, so it doesn’t always have to be a game of beer pong! Portable music players or Bluetooth speakers are also good to have to pump your own tunes away from the festival floor. Also, don’t forget to charge your power bank so that your mobile phone stays fully charged to capture the fun and send news to those less fortunate souls back home via social media.

After the festival, you will most likely arrive home weary and sun kissed, with a plethora of camping equipment and accessories. Whilst these items are great at the festival, they can make your home a rather cluttered and untidy space.

Enter Stor-Age self storage! Our stores, which are conveniently located around the country, offer ideal accessibility to help you store valuables which aren’t in daily or monthly use. You can even take your festival goodies to your self storage unit on a Sunday after arriving home from a festival, as they are open every day of the week from 7am to 7pm. Some Stor-Age stores are even open 24/7 – take a look at the various self storage locations and options here.

If you don’t take the right care of your camping items, or if they are improperly stored, you could find they are damaged when you next want to use them. Our Stor-Age stores not only offer a convenient and safe self storage solution, but we’ll also help you with all your packaging needs to make sure your equipment is stored correctly. All of our stores stock a wide range of storage boxes and other packaging materials such as bubble wrap, tape, padlocks and other useful products.

Packing for the next music festival

A few tips to safely store your camping gear

  1. Never put your gear into storage while dirty or wet.
  2. Clean off any mud and organise it into sealable boxes with labels for easy reference. A damp tent can quickly get mildew or mould.
  3. Don’t store a sleeping bag long-term inside its stuff sack as this can damage the insulation.
  4. If you are placing some of your camping gear in boxes in your self storage unit, label the boxes so you can easily find the essentials.
  5. Make sure you pack your goodies properly and not simply place them on the floor.
  6. Use packaging! Stor-Age stores sell a range of packaging equipment to assist you in storing your expensive camping items safely.

Why self storage?

Due to the flexible leases, you’ll have convenient access to your secure self storage unit and be able to upgrade or downgrade to a different sized unit at a moment’s notice. Our many locations nationwide means that there is a good chance that a Stor-Age self storage store is less than ten minutes from your home, with accessible trading hours (including weekends) for your convenience.  Pop into one of our stores between 7am and 7pm, and chat to one of our friendly staff who are always willing to help with your storage needs.

Thanks to Stor-Age, you can lose yourself in the music without worrying about how that new inflatable couch is going to fit into your apartment once you get home.
