Climbing the corporate ladder with LGLT Working @ Heights Solutions
When it comes to workplace safety, you can never be too careful. This is especially true for those who work at knee-trembling heights. Whether doing exterior building maintenance 25 floors up or constructing a new skyscraper, it can be difficult to keep your wits about you if you're constantly worried about shaky equipment or a sudden trip to the ground floor.
Driven to protect those working at height challenges, Awie Esterhuizen founded LGLT Working @ Heights Solutions. We recently caught up with Awie to learn more about his innovative solutions to height challenges. Here's what he had to say.
Can you tell us about LGLT Working @ Heights Solutions and what the company does?
We are LGLT Working @ Heights Solutions. We’re a private South African Company operating in the Western Cape and Gauteng and introduce innovative solutions for working at height challenges. We are passionate about loss prevention and specialise in supplying ladders and towers, such as Altrex Aluminium Towers, for many personal and commercial uses.
We strive to help our customers avoid wasting capital on inadequate material. With us, the customer is not paying for the equipment but rather funding it with money saved on labour costs and time loss due to poor equipment.
What business tips do you have for aspiring business owners?
My top tips for aspiring business owners would be to study yourself into the independence that comes with starting your own business. Secondly, don’t let fears and negative beliefs stop you from achieving success. Remember that you don’t need multiple qualifications or high capital to build a successful business. Lastly, study your customer base, identify the problems, and be clear on how you plan to solve those problems.
If you had to start all over again, what advice would you give yourself?
To start my businesses earlier, to focus less on myself and more on my customers, and ensure that my priorities are placed heavily on the customers’ wants and needs. It’s important to remember that a customer will reject your business or services if you’re not adding value to their life or business.
On a bad day, how do you refocus and stay productive?
When I have a bad day, I meditate and think about some of my idols and try to achieve their level of persistence. By calming your mind and adopting a grateful mindset, you’ll quickly realise that you have more to be grateful for than you think. This mentality will inevitably drive you forward to complete your goals.
Who inspires you professionally/personally and why do you take inspiration from them?
Thomas Edison is one of them. I imagine him testing the first lightbulb 1000 times before succeeding, but he persisted. Another is Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC. He was already 65 years old when he approached around 1000 shops with his secret recipe, giving 1000 sales pitches before getting one person to say yes. As people, we often give up on our dreams just before we find success, but those men show the value of persistence.
