Introducing songo.info - building brighter futures

Founded in 2008 by mountain biking champion Christoph Sauser, this charity continuously strives to help the children of Kayamandi to connect, build bonds and blaze a new path to a brighter future through cycling. With their main focus being on youth development, this small community cycling project quickly grew from the idea of installing a BMX track, to an institution that now provides education platforms, sporting programmes and hot meals, served daily, to 100 smiling children.

A helping hand

Currently, there are 75 children between primary and high school scholars, as well as 25 pre-primary children under the Songo Tots Programme.

Well aware of the limited opportunities for children in the area, songo provides a conducive space for children to complete their homework with access to computers and e-learning platforms. As many children struggle to find the fun in homework, songo provides an exciting BMX track to motivate them to keep pushing forward.

Making a difference one day at a time

With a focus on youth development, education, and sport, songo is making a notable difference in the Kayamandi community.

Christoph Sauser, songo founder, comments, “We find that the cycling side is a handy motivation to encourage the children. The charity’s full-time teachers and part-time volunteers, as well as our occupational therapist, aid the children in the programme to strive towards better academic performances. We then do what we can to source bursaries for tertiary education, whenever possible.”

Getting involved

Together with songo, Stor-Age will be running a competition for entrants to stand a chance to win an FNB Wines2Whales team entry, for the Pinotage event, to help raise funds for their ongoing programmes.

For every R100 donated to songo via GivenGain, you’ll receive ONE entry into the iconic FNB W2W Pinotage event, taking place from 31 October to 2 November. The winner will receive race entry, tented accommodation and meals for two riders! Keep an eye on our social media platforms for more information!

The charity is a vital source of support without stigma, helping children strive for a brighter future. All donations, from time and money to second-hand appliances, furniture, and sport equipment are most welcome. The Specialized Bicycle Concept Stores across the Western Cape have songo donation containers for cyclists to donate second-hand sport kits and equipment.
