What does an average day in your position entail?
Enquiry management – follow ups and sales. Assisting with store call overflows. Sales forecast and reporting. Training new contact centre members.
What learning opportunities have you been exposed to while at Stor-Age?
Growth Development Forum. SiteLink training, Management principles. Sales training and CC workshop (High Performance Training).
How do you make a difference by contributing towards the core values of the business?
Staying in an intrapreneurial mindset allows me to continuously refine processes and systems so we remain relevant while standard of operation.
What highlights have you enjoyed whilst employed at Stor-Age?
I have had the opportunity to work in two different regions of the company while training under some of the company’s strongest performers.
What are your thoughts on the growth of the business?
Our venture into the UK markets is definitely viewed as a milestone for us and I am keen for the opportunities that will be opening up as a result thereof. Our growth on the share price indicates the company is in a healthy position so more of the same is expected in future. I’m impressed that the company culture has been maintained despite our growth.
Why did you choose to apply to Stor-Age?
I was in a job that was not going anywhere, and Stor-Age had a position open for an Operations Manager at Sea Point.
What does an average day in your position entail?
My days start with checking the activities of the three stores I am responsible for. I then catch up on emails before starting training with store managers if they are not busy with clients. If I am not doing training, I am doing site checks on the conversions and conducting follow ups. I monitor if staff are doing work in the correct Stor-Age trained way. I also advise on queries from new staff I am training, and assist clients with any queries or complaints.
What learning opportunities have you been exposed to whilst at Stor-Age?
Train the Trainer. Various in-house training course including sales training, managers training and Health and Safety training. The most important training is the on-the-job training I get daily in my work.
How do you make a difference by contributing towards the core values of the business?
I aspire to train everyone that I work with to do everything the Stor-Age way. What I teach is what I do. I want happy customers so I can be proud of our company.
What highlights have you enjoyed whilst employed at Stor-Age?
Seeing Jack Parow live rates highly. Seeing the company list on the JSE and knowing I had a small part to play in our success. Getting to live in four different regions for work.
What are your thoughts on the growth of the business?
It has been fantastic to be part of the company’s growth. The number of properties with our name on it is something I am extremely proud of.
Why did you choose to apply to Stor-Age?
I started applying for jobs within my field of Operations and a vacancy for an Assistant Operations Manager at Stor-Age popped up. I took a chance at applying for the position and I received a reply within an hour. My interview was then arranged for the next day and within five days I received a letter of appointment. I am grateful for the opportunity and so glad I took the time to apply.
What does an average day in your position entail?
Being based at a big box, “flagship” facility; I pride myself on ensuring that it is operating at the best levels at all times. My day starts off with being on time, ensuring the office/retail area is clean before operating hours. I walk about my facility, assign duties to the team of Facility Assistants that keep the property clean and secure. I then ensure that we have all the correct documents to start off our day in the office. Once all that is complete I settle down, focus on the tasks set out for the day and ensure that we are prepared at all times with a smile to assist both current and new clients
What learning opportunities have you been exposed to whilst at Stor-Age?
I have had the privilege of attending various sales, system and customer service training courses. These ongoing courses have assisted tremendously.
How do you make a difference by contributing towards the core values of the business?
I aspire to provide excellent service to all clients. I love empowering people around me and have the opportunity to train new staff and share my knowledge. I am always willing to assist in and around both mine and other facilities.
What highlights have you enjoyed while employed at Stor-Age?
Being promoted within six months of employment and completing my first 10km race during one of our team building activities.
What are your thoughts on the growth of the business?
I am proud to be a part of the Stor-Age team, an ever-growing and ever-evolving company. I love when clients walk into my facility and look in awe when taken on a tour. With the recent opening of the newest facility, I strongly believe that we are on a fast track to fulfilling our vision of being the best self-storage business in the world!
Why did you choose to apply to Stor-Age?
Even though Stor-Age is seen as a Need for Space company, I realised the underlying business had to do with property, and I love property. I was looking forward to working for a company involved in a fairly new sector in South Africa; being part of its growth and experiencing the different phases and stages, from construction to lease up.
What does an average day in your position entail?
I manage people, deadlines and expectations on a daily basis. No two days are the same and no matter how well I plan my day, I can add another hour or two for unforeseen urgent matters that always arise. What learning opportunities have you been exposed to whilst at Stor-Age?
I’ve been exposed to various Inhouse training courses, for instance the MDF programme, Property Development, a Communications course and even a How to Chair a Hearing course which I found very informative and interesting. Stor-Age has given me the opportunity to attend seminars by The South African Institute of Professional Accountants so I can stay up to date with newest accounting and tax laws. I also enjoy the informal training opportunities which I have with my peers, managers and directors.
How do you make a difference by contributing towards the core values of the business?
By talking highly of Stor-Age whenever I am asked questions by investors/potential investors. I try to build staff morale and treat everyone equally. I believe I add value by sharing my ideas in how I think we can promote the business and our product to the public and investor markets. I take pride in my work and therefore keep information confidential. I am always on time and make sure we meet our deadlines. I never hesitate to go the extra mile as I want to see and be part of the growth and success of the company.
What highlights have you enjoyed whilst employed at Stor-Age?
I’ve enjoyed seeing how we’ve grown from only being 10 people at head office to over 50, going from five to over 50 stores in South Africa and to top it, entering the UK market. The fun times we’ve had at socials and conferences have also been highlights in their own special way. Listening to one particular motivational speaker, Hein Wagner, was truly inspirational.
What are your thoughts on the growth of the business?
Stor-Age has gone through phenomenal growth and the foot is still on the accelerator. So, there is no room to sit back and relax, it’s more a matter of buckle up as the best is still to come.
How would you rate your work/life balance?
Being in Finance and being part of a listed entity, you will always have those periods where you need to work longer hours as you have reporting deadlines which you can’t miss. The time I do have available for myself, I try to make the most of.
